While HuffPost, Twitter and Facebook fall to fake news, PUBLIQ releases Testnet for a platform that empowers independent and quality journalism
PUBLIQ releases its Testnet for a decentralized content platform that offers merit-based and instant remuneration to authors and advertisers in order to combat fake news and biased reporting.
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, January 2017 — PUBLIQ, a non-profit foundation, is releasing today the Testnet for its decentralized content platform that offers merit-based, real-time, and instant remuneration to authors from all over the world, creating a veritable solution for fake news and biased reporting. There’s been a series of recent announcements from leading news providers showing the impact fake news has had on the media: HuffPost dissolves its contributor network with a purpose of minimizing low-quality reporting; Twitter emails 677,775 users about their interaction with the Russian government that led to over million tweets about fake news; Facebook changes its news feed algorithm, which prioritizes posts from friends and family over those from publishers and content providers. PUBLIQ aims to the endless array of finger-pointing that has become fake news, by developing a platform that introduces a mechanism of community governance to ensure readers are protected from biased content.
The PUBLIQ Foundation builds a trust-based ecosystem that is operated by authors, journalists, bloggers, and advertisers around the world and encourages them to share their written perspectives in a safe and encrypted way. The Testnet of PUBLIQ is functional and works in unison with the goals of the ecosystem. This version helps to demonstrate one of PUBLIQ’s use cases – publishing of content through Demo Channels, allowing authors to register, post content and start earning a reputation while letting users provide feedback about its quality.
The foundation’s goal is to overcome the massive flow of poor, fake, and fabricated news, as its platform offers a transparent rewarding process that incentivizes members to write high-quality content and advertisers to target their specific audience in the most efficient way.
PUBLIQ’s blockchain technology operates independently from Bitcoin and Ethereum, in sharp contrast with the majority of rising startups in the “Blockchain Silicon Valley.” The PUBLIQ Foundation believes that blockchain is made to create open and borderless neutral systems, where trust is established by the power of the network and not by trusted intermediaries. Once an article is posted on PUBLIQ, the content gets cryptographically sealed, distributed, and is immutable, meaning no third parties can tamper with the authors’’ work.
Authors will get rewarded according to the “PUBLIQ Score” they have. This score is calculated by the previous engagement their pieces have earned. The reward process is completed using the PBQ token: the in-house currency that was developed as a utility value for transactions on the platform. Other participants who sustain the platform and maintain its reliability are called seeders and nodes; seeders store the encrypted content and make it available to the platform’s users; nodes validate the data and help maintain the integrity of the distributed content.
The Workflow would look as follows:
- An author uses PBQ to post an article.
- The reader reads the article through our channels and can like it, share it, or raise a flag.
- A smart contract takes care of communicating the reader feedback to the analytics engine that then updates the author’s PUBLIQ score.
- Another smart contract takes care of crediting the author’s wallet with an amount of PBQ commensurate to his PUBLIQ score.
Advertisers will be using the platform as well for a more targeted advertising process, with the help of the new engine tools that PUBLIQ develops. The AI algorithm provides an advertisement placement mechanism based on readers’ preferences, but also on the nature of the articles (topics, industries etc.). It helps to determine which ad might interest which readers and channels more than others based on the activity on the platform.
” We are delighted to launch the first Testnet that invites both independent authors and publishers to experience the main functionality and participate in bringing PUBLIQ to life”, said Alexandre Tabbakh, CEO of PUBLIQ. “Giving the unique opportunity for authors and publishers to access our Testnet is the best way for us to strengthen our relationship with media participants. In addition, we are enabling PUBLIQ to directly stand out from its game-changing developments and platform, not only through our disruptive ideas.”, says Mr. Tabbakh.

PUBLIQ introduces a peer-to-peer distributed network that implements a new vision and approach to the media industry. It changes the way people interact and stay informed, specifically in the fast-growing online media environment where no disintermediated way to transact and exchange exists. The incredible growth of Internet access and speed around the world offers the opportunity to more and more people to be connected to media, anytime, anywhere. However, the media environment is currently under threats. Over-centralization, unfair remunerations, poor customer experience, and absence of quality contents are on the rise. The situation is not only affecting our approach and trust towards media, but also our understanding of what is really happening around us. The PUBLIQ team is building our future media ecosystem based on blockchain technology combined with analytics and artificial intelligence (AI). PUBLIQ is rebuilding trust in media by empowering authors and readers to be part of a safe, impartial and fair ecosystem.
PUBLIQ’s team members have considerable experience in building blockchain solutions in the past, as well as a solid business team that is targeted to elevate the concept in the arena.
